It's Been Too Long

I can't believe how long it's been since I posted here. Life has been very hectic, but I have missed this little space of mine. Here's some recent photos taken with the beautiful Arthur's Seat as a backdrop, and I promise there will be more posts to come very soon. In these photos I'm wearing two presents from my sister: this gorgeous jumper and my adorable fox necklace from Tatty Devine which I absolutely adore and wear constantly. It gets me so many compliments! I hope all of you are well and have had a wonderful summer. I've missed you all!

Changes

I've been neglecting my blog again. I'm sorry. There have been some changes around here. The bar where my boyfriend had just started work suddenly closed for renovations for the next ten weeks or so (he found out on the Saturday and  it closed the following Monday. Pretty sudden!). We can't survive on just one income so things have been a little stressful, and I've been working more, trying to pick up some of the slack. Anyway, he's found a new job so hopefully things will return to normal soon.

We did, however, manage to take these few snaps of my new zebra print top from my sister the other day.

In the meantime, I've been trying not to worry too much and instead focussing on looking forward to my mum and two of my sisters visiting next week, listening to this and watching copious amounts of Gilmore Girls reruns.

Dotty About Flowers

I've been busy with work this week as usual, so I took the opportunity to take a few photos on my day off after a delicious late lunch at Wannaburger (cheeseburger, fries and a chocolate shake: perfection)with one of my friends. Hopefully now that the days are getting longer I'll have more opportunities to take photos in daylight! I love this pretty tshirt: in the summer when it's a bit warmer I wear it without another top underneath.

Last weekend I went to the Scottish Bloggers Valentine's Party at Hemma Bar on Saturday night: it was lovely to meet some other bloggers and I had a great time. Hopefully we'll all be able to meet up again in a couple of months.

"Pink Zebra Scarf!"

I was so excited to find this pink zebra scarf. What could be sweeter than pink zebras?! And I got it for free, which is always a bonus.

These black shorts are one of the few items of clothing I have purchased during my first year in Edinburgh: I got them in the January sales for less than five pounds, but they were the last pair and much too big around the waist. A bit of sewing fixed them up though and I wear them to work quite a bit: they're so comfy and versatile. I wish I could get them in a few different colours.

I'm really looking forward to the Scottish Bloggers Valentine's Party this Saturday: for one thing, it'll be my first Saturday night off in, well, almost a year! I've been trying to decide what to wear, but I still can't make up my mind.

I'm off to sleep now: I decided to get these up before I go to sleep after work. It was lovely walking home this morning with my boyfriend though: the birds were all singing and we had our own little dawn chorus. Tomorrow we've got a welcome day off which we will be spending with a group of our friends. Happy Wednesday!

Yum Yum

My sister sent me a gorgeous new MAC lipstick yesterday: Candy Yum Yum! (Thank you big sis!) So I decided to give it a whirl today. Even though it's matte it didn't dry my lips out like I thought it might and it lasted really well. It is the perfect candy pink too. I might even wear it at work tonight! I usually avoid wearing lipstick at work because it's not like I have much of an opportunity to check that it's staying on properly or if it needs to be reapplied, especially on a Saturday night!  It's all I can do  to serve all of the customers as quickly as possible, and any free seconds I have are spent gulping down some Irn Bru to keep me going! But I've fallen in love with this colour, and if it comes off during the night? Who cares! Hope you're all having a lovely weekend.

Spring Greens

I felt very ladylike today wearing this pretty, delicate skirt and I always love to wear bright colours when it's grey outside like it was today. This skirt is much longer than the skirts and dresses that I usually wear, and I think it will encourage me to make use of some of the other skirts and dresses that my sister has given me that are this length. For some reason I have never felt that they would flatter my figure, but I have finally seen the light!

What do you think? Do you feel better in short skirts or in a longer cut?

Day Off

I love days off! Or nights off really, I suppose. This Wednesday and Thursday were wonderful days spent with my friends and my boyfriend. I ate lots (a lemon meringue cupcake from Cuckoo's Bakery and a garlic steak from the amazing Bells Diner in Stockbridge being the highlights: our healthy week finished on Wednesday so although we are trying to keep some of it up we also decided to treat ourselves), drank very little (drank a long, slow pint of draught strawberry beer which tasted more like Ribena than alcohol) and relaxed. Tomorrow I'm off to the dentist first thing because my wisdom tooth has been giving me some trouble, then I've got a few hours at work to do a spring clean! Hope you are all having a lovely week.

Daylight

Not used to the daylight...

The light may have been fading, but we finally made it out into the daylight on Thursday for the first time this year! I breathed a huge sigh of relief on Wednesday night/Thursday morning when my last eleven hour shift was over. No more finishing at 7 a.m.! And no more neglecting my blog either! How I have missed it. I've even got a new blog design in the works.

I'm wearing my dads old jumper which I bought back to Edinburgh from Ireland when I was at home over Christmas. My boyfriend reckons it makes me look like a hipster but I disagree!

Off to see The Hobbit tonight. I loved the book when I was young, so I hope the film won't disappoint!

The Last Of The Light

We just managed to catch the last of the light today to take these. It was so nice not to be freezing without my jacket for once! It was my day off, so we ran some errands around town after we took these (finally registering for the doctor. We were each handed little plastic tubes to, ahem, fill and bring back in for our registration appointment: yay!). After dinner my friend Rebecca came over and we made rice crispy buns and watched 2 Broke Girls and Friends reruns and chatted for hours. We may or may not have eaten three rice crispy buns each. They turned out too golden syrup-y, but in our opinion you can never have too much golden syrup... so what if we had to eat them out of their cases with spoons?! We're inventors.

Setting Sail

We went to get coffee today as soon as we got up with the tips my boyfriend got last night. I had a Black Forest Hot Chocolate: it's one of the Costa Christmas specials and it's so delicious! It's so dark now when we get up. Sunset was at 4 p.m today, and usually we don't get to sleep until about 7 a.m by the time we've walked home after work (we usually finish at about 5 or half 5 a.m) so if we want 8 hours sleep that means getting up at around 3 p.m. It means that we're missing out pretty much all of the daylight. It's my first experience of this too: it's my first winter working nights, and sunset where I used to live in Ireland is about 40 minutes later anyway. I miss the light!

I wore my new Vans today (so comfy!) and one of the pretty neck scarves that belonged to my grandmother. She had a wonderful collection of all different colours and patterns, and this sailing boat print is one of my favourites.  Do you like the last picture?! I look like I'm posing for a school photo!

Grey And Black: A Winter Staple

I love wearing grey and black, especially in the winter. I usually pair it with something bright: it's such an easy base to work from. I've got my grey wool skirt and at least three grey cardigans and tops that I wear on a regular basis. And I wear black almost constantly: I have to wear all black at work too so it's surprising I'm not sick of it!

But as much as I love neutrals, I also love bright colours too. So today, when me and my boyfriend needed new comfy shoes for everyday use, I went for bright red Vans. My last pair of Vans (which were white: not a great choice as they got dirty very easily but I loved them) lasted for ages, and they're a nice, wide fit for my bunion-y feet. I just know the bright red will cheer me up when I'm wearing them on the cold and rainy days which are sure to come over the next few months!

Movember is going well in our house...
